The Selector 2 Random Search Selector - mains operated.

The Selector 2 is the latest addition to the Selector 2 range of Random Search Selectors. This is designed as a stand-alone portable unit ready to use out of the box. Just set the desired search ratio, plug in the supplied mains adaptor, or fit batteries if preferred, and it's ready for use. The unit can also be permanently installed on a wall or work surface. The Selector 2 is ideal for use with stop and search theft prevention to eliminate losses from warehouses, shops, factories or other installations where the stock may be going missing. It can be desk or wall mounted and is supplied ready to plug in and use. The selector 2 has key controlled settings of 0% - 100% and a microcomputer-controlled display with a 4-digit LED display, which is guaranteed to be unpredictable.

How does the Random Search Selector work?

All personnel press the push button on the exit. The Selector II is in view of the security personnel.

A red light accompanied by a high tone indicates search, whilst a green light with a low tone indicates a pass.

The overall percentage of personnel to be selected can be adjusted from 0-100% (in 1% increments).

The selection is random, and the odds of being selected are the same every time the button is pressed.

Random Search Selectors, what are they?

Random Search Selection is a simple security procedure that is well established across a wide range of industries such as loss prevention, weapons location, and alcohol and drug testing. Anywhere where a random test is to be made. The clue is within the name. It's a random process of selecting people from a group randomly and unpredictably. That person is then subjected to appropriate checks to ensure that the company's policies, loss prevention, weapons, alcohol and drug abuse are being adhered to. Random sampling reduces the number of time-consuming investigations and provides a real deterrent to any employee inclined to breach your policies.

There are many ways to implement this procedure, such as software selecting from a list of employees, but this is flawed as it has little or no visible deterrent, and it could be argued that the software is manipulated in some way. You could randomly select people for a search. However, by the nature of using people to do the task, it cannot be truly random, 'people' are not inclined to be random. We think before we act. Therefore any individual selected (or allowed to pass!) has been done so for a reason - that is not random and therefore biased or open to corruption with the associated discrimination implications.

Random Search Selectors are truly random, unbiased and incorruptible, always 'awake' and functioning, and importantly provide the high-profile deterrent that makes Random Search Selection such an efficient and cost-effective method of company policy enforcement. Typically you would only need to set a 5% alarm rate in an established secure establishment; this ratio can be adjusted very simply.
